Olympic Women's Slalom: By the Numbers

For the cross-country skiing Annika Taylor made her Olympic debut on Sunday in the Skiathlon and the 24-year-old is looking forward to an improved performance in Thursday's 10km Free race.

"It's a tough decision", said NBC commentator Bode Miller on the Comcast-net on the jury call to not have the slalom competition today.

Gusting winds forced the International Ski Federation (FIS) into postponing a third race of the alpine programe after the men's downhill and women's giant slalom were also rescheduled.

Today's ladies' Slalom was delayed twice and then finally postponed until Friday due to adverse weather conditions at Yongpyong Alpine Centre. The giant slalom will also now be Friday so the events will be back to back.

Shiffrin enters these games in position to enter - and potentially medal - in all five alpine skiing disciplines: downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom and alpine combined.

"It was a long and hard day today", said the former Norwegian racer, twice a super-G world champion.

Slovakia's Petra Vlhova won in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, in the last World Cup race before the Winter Games, and has been a skier to watch since her junior days. We've been through days like this before, in World Cup, quite often and the number one thing is safety and the second thing is to have a good, fair race. I'll use this time to continue to train and refocus on Wednesday's slalom race.

Earlier this week in the women's slopestyle event, several riders were critical that racing was held in adverse conditions, with one Dutch snowboarder insisting the competition was a lottery.

American Jamie Anderson laid down the best first run to retain the title she won in Sochi four years ago but pre-event favorite Anna Gasser, who failed to land either of her runs, said the final should have been postponed.

The wind gusts have been strong enough to push people around; by evening, metal detectors outside venues and all signage were laid down on the ground, to prevent them from being picked up by the gusts.

The men's super-G, originally set for Thursday, has been switched to Friday.
