Serena Williams back on court with sister Venus after pregnancy break

Williams had not played a competitive match since last January

The 23-time Grand Slam champion played in her first competitive match since winning last year’s Australian Open final

Serena Williams made her long-awaited comeback to the tennis court alongside elder sister Venus Williams after the United States sealed a decisive 3-1 victory over the Netherlands in their defence of the Fed Cup here, Monday.

The former World No. 1 played in an exhibition match in December against the French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, which she lost and subsequently avoided the current year's Australian Open.

Every mom who's ever tried to ease back into exercise a few months after giving birth-especially after a hard C-section-knows how much of a challenge it can be to just pull on a pair of shorts, throw your hair in a messy bun, and take those first few tentative steps. "It gave me a lot of pressure for me to close it out and a lot of pressure for her to stay in and I just handled it a little better". "I didn't expect to, I don't know, have that much power on my serves, even though they didn't go in". I feel like I'm on the right track.

Serena Williams played in a tennis tournament in front of her baby daughter Alexis for the first time this weekend.

But team captain Kathy Rinaldi confirmed her participation after sister Venus won her singles match against Richel Hogenkamp earlier to seal victory for the United States, 3-0.

Williams's husband Alexis Ohanian, sat in the front row, holding up their impossibly cute daughter, who was wearing a red-and-white striped headband/bow combo that stylish infants are no doubt scrambling to copy.

The dead-rubber was supposed to be the feel-good, icing on the cake, but the Dutch players had other ideas.

The American star took time away from the sport to give birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia and get married, to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

In the absence of seventh-ranked Caroline Garcia, who is declining to play for France as she focuses on her singles career, the 13th-ranked Mladenovic led the way by winning both her singles. This is literally my first time traveling with the baby and everything. I honestly feel better than I thought I was going to feel.

"I didn't manage my time well", she said.
