Air Canada Passengers Experiencing Extreme Delays Following System Meltdown

A system-wide computer outage is leading to long lines at airports across Canada on Monday, as some flights are having to be checked in manually.

All flights are now available for purchase via the Air Canada app, at aircanada.com and through travel agents.

The company's representatives wrote on the social network Twitter, which is Air Canada "ran interference" in the work of contact centers and the web site and doing everything possible to as soon as possible to restore service.

According to the airlines' website it is also impossible for people to book a flight right now, so if you were hoping to find some last minute deal with Air Canada you're out of luck.

The Canadian carrier advised in a tweet that airport systems, check-in and customer call centres were all back online.

Many departing flights out of YVR are now being delayed.

The Air Canada AC8060 departure at 10 a.m. was cancelled and the airport is reporting that others may be facing delays.

The issues were resolved shortly after 2:00 p.m., but customers were left reeling from the technical meltdown.
