The Concept M8 Gran Coupe shows off the latest BMW design elements, some of which might make production; the large coupe/sedan features a huge front fascia with exaggerated everything and a fastback profile leading to a duck-tail trunk lid.
"The Salève Vert paint finish, whose colour appears to change from green to greyish blue in different lights, creates a hugely effective surface composition and teams up with the gold-coloured window graphic, hallmark M gills, gold-coloured brakes, wheel rims and M twin exhaust tailpipes to give the vehicle a head-turning, all-new look, " the press release states. As this is a concept auto we can't really expect huge amounts of technical details, and we don't get any. Moving along the side, the long wheelbase is evident with a short rear.
"The BMW 8 Series will take over as the new flagship model of the BMW line-up and, as such, combines unsurpassed sportiness and elegance". Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design BMW M and BMW I was quoted as saying: "The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is supposed to stir up, it should polarize - it should move emotionally". Today, at the Geneva International Motor Show, BMW did one better and not only revealed the stunning emerald green M8 Gran Coupe Concept is a design study that "previews the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and BMW M8 Gran Coupe". "Here, BMW M is unmistakably taking luxury out of its comfort zone". "The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe offers a look ahead to the most exotic and alluring variant of the new BMW 8 Series".
Lastly, BMW confirms that the 8 Series and therefore the four-door Gran Coupe will force the 7 Series out of the brand's range-topping status. It does confirm that the Gran Coupe comes with a lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof, which lowers both the car's weight and the centre of gravity.
