Kevin Esterly and missing Allentown teen found in Mexico, officials say

A 16-year-old Lehigh Valley girl who went missing for more than a week was found Saturday in Mexico by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, culminating a search for the 45-year-old man suspected of conducting an inappropriate relationship with the girl.

Yu along with Kevin Esterly, 45, have been missing since March 5, and when the girl did not return home from school that night, her mother reported her missing, the Allentown Police Department said.

Police say Esterly signed the teen out of school numerous times and that Yu had modified school documents to list him as her stepfather.

Investigators say before they disappeared together, Esterly and Yu may have maintained a secret relationship together, as he had signed the 16-year-old girl out of her high school 10 times since November without her parents' permission.

The arrest came two days after Mexican authorities issued an Amber Alert for Yu, which stated that she could in danger.

Both are being returned to the US and a charge of interference with the custody of a child awaits Esterly's extradition.

The Allentown Police Department does not have a timeline for Esterly's extradition. The couple's four girls range in age from 2 to 14, and Kevin Esterly said he could be like a father figure to her, according to the report.

Police said Esterly and Amy exchanged hundreds of text messages, WFMZ reported. They will be taken to Miami, Florida.

- February 15: Allentown police investigators visit Esterly and his wife, Stacey, at their Allentown home and advises them both to stay away from Yu and that the girl's mother didn't want them to have any further contact with her. Amy is going to need counseling and their daughters are going to need counseling. "She wants Amy home with her mom, that is what she has always wanted".

Yu's mother then told the school that she's a single mother and school workers called police, Hammer said.

Where is Amy Yu?

An attorney representing Esterly's wife told The Morning Call her husband's close relationship with Yu goes back several years and is documented in a series of Facebook photos he shared from 2014 to 2015. Tampa police said they were investigating the death of Arnaud, 38, although they said in a news release that it appears to be accidental. "This has been an ordeal for this family", Waldron said.

Yu is friends with one of Esterly's four daughters, with Amy's family saying the pair met initially at church years ago. "They were yelling about they think that Amy and Kevin are sleeping together and doing stupid stuff".
