Militants on Sunday opened fire at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post outside an Army camp in Pohan area of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

A senior J&K Police official said that when police were called, they found a auto some distance away in which three youths were found dead.

The Army said his three accomplices, whom the spokesman described as "over-ground workers", were also "found dead" in the vehicle apparently used by the militant. The incident took place at 8 pm.

The Army could not immediately furnish the details of the circumstances in which the accomplices were killed. "In a retaliatory operation, one terrorist was neutralised", said Srinagar-based army spokesperson, Rajesh Kalia.

While the army confirmed that the three slain persons were OGWs of terrorists, the police are yet to confirm their exact identity. "Police has reached the spot and started legal formalities", a statement from the army said.

He said it was being ascertained whether the three youths were associates of the terrorist or not.

They identified them as Suhail Khalil Wagay R/O Pinjoora, Muhammad Shahid Khan R/O Malikgund and Shahnawaz Ahmad Wagay R/O Trenz. The area was cordoned off and search operations launched, a police official told PTI.
