(5 mm), as Toyota resists the size creep that has afflicted so many C-size crossovers. The drivetrain is a choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or an innovative CVT that includes both a gear drive for the lowest gear and a belt drive for higher gears; this improves acceleration from standstill and is also featured on the new Lexus UX. It features a version of the TNGA platform that's underpinning every new Toyota nowadays. It's also slightly wider and just a bit shorter than the present RAV4.
Once an aging relic among a fierce set of competitors, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 arrives with rugged looks to match its modern tech.
The mechanical suite is complemented by a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive setup with rear driveline disconnect, which can reroute 50% of the engine torque to the rear axle and split it between the two wheels accordingly. Using a pair of clutches on the center driveshaft, disconnecting the rear wheels and reducing fuel consumption when all-wheel drive isn't needed.
"Together with the robust exterior styling and sophisticated interior, the new RAV4 will offer even greater appeal to people with active lifestyles who want to explore the city, make a weekend trip to the country or head onto off-road trails". Again, Toyota is mum on powertrain details, but the automaker did say that a continuously variable transmission will be standard and that the hybrid will be the highest-performance RAV4 variant. Despite that, the SUV is actually more aerodynamic than the model it replaces.
The hybrid model has standard 4WD as the electric motor sends 30 percent more power to the rear wheels than the outgoing version. Toyota hasn't said just how much power it will offer, but a representative for the automaker told The Car Connection to expect a 15-percent increase over the current model's 176 horsepower.
On the tech front, Toyota has included its latest Entune 3.0 infotainment system on all models. When Toyota says that its model is "new" they really mean it. There's also a new 11-speaker JBL audio system.
The company also made it a standard for all trims to come with safety features like a lane-departure warning with a lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Road Sign Assist can identify traffic signs like stop, yield, do not enter, etc. and display warnings to the driver based on those.
In addition to its new platform, the Corolla Hatchback also receives a new naturally aspirated "Dynamic-Force" four-cylinder engine. The all-new 2019 Toyota RAV4 gas models will hit the dealerships during the late 2018 and the hybrid model will available in early 2019.
