As part of Mayor Megan Barry's plea deal, she will have to serve three years of unsupervised probation.
She will reimburse the amount of money to the capital city of the USA southern state of Tennessee and will be on probation for three years. But on Tuesday morning, she entered the guilty plea.
Nashville Mayor Megan Barry resigned Tuesday amid investigations into an affair with the head of her security detail.
Funk declined to comment after the hearing. While today is primarily about the smooth transition from my administration to that of Vice Mayor Briley, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge and thank the thousands and thousands of people who have reached out to me, written me, encouraged me, comforted me, anxious endlessly about me, and most importantly prayed for me during these many hard and trying months.
Authorities found two nude or partially nude photos of a woman that were taken by Forrest's phone while he was on duty.
Forrest has apologized through his lawyer in the form of a statement, according to the Washington Post: "I deeply regret that my professional relationship with Mayor Barry turned into a personal one".
The mayor of Nashville resigned after a sex scandal. "He was part of my security detail, and as part of that responsibility, I should have gone to the [police] chief, and I should have said what was going on, and that was a mistake". If Barry follows the agreement for three years, the charges can be expunged and dropped.
"My pledge is simple: As mayor, I will begin work immediately with a sole focus on managing the city and making progress on community priorities", Briley wrote. Barry also allegedly deleted text messages between her and Forrest.
Reports say Barry and Forrest "went together, without any other city employees, on nine trips around the country and the globe, according to travel, expenditure and scheduling records including trips from Athens, Greece to San Francisco, The Tennessean reported".
Barry and former bodyguard Robert Forrest pleaded guilty to felony theft of taxpayer money related to their affair.
Prior to the affair, Barry was considered a rising progressive star in Nashville where she had approval ratings around 70 percent.
But at least Megan Barry has a really good mug shot.
Barry's admission - in an interview with the USA TODAY NETWORK - Tennessee and then alone on a city hall stage before a scrum of media - shocked the city and set into motion a series of investigations into whether she had violated ethical or criminal laws.
The Mayor's office issued a statement that Barry would be giving a statement at 10 a.m. News 4 will broadcast this statement and stream here.
