Canada to host meeting of female foreign ministers

"The language will be tough because of what the Russians have done until now", one source said. "But it can also be interpreted as leaving the door open", said one sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

"We fully agreed that we will never accept a nuclear-armed North Korea", Kono said on the first day of a two-day meeting in Toronto, Canada, suggesting Pyongyang's announcement that it will suspend nuclear tests and long-range missile launches was insufficient to meet the demands of the global community.

"Minister Freeland and G7 Foreign Ministers reaffirmed our shared respect for rules-based worldwide order, including on territorial sovereignty".

"We are against revising these agreements, we consider it very counterproductive to try to reduce to zero years of worldwide work carried out via talks between the six major powers and Iran", Russia's tate news agency TASS quoted Lavrov as saying after talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. "But it must then come up with constructive offers in return", he told reporters on Sunday.

"There was G7 unity on opposing Russia's malign behaviour", a senior U.S. official told reporters, citing Moscow's failure to prevent Syrian forces from using chemical weapons and interference in Western elections. The Syrian government and its Russian ally deny involvement or using poison gas on April 7.

Freeland and Kono also met last month in Tokyo, where they affirmed their commitment to keep economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea to end its nuclear program at this G7 meeting.

The gathering is part of the regularly scheduled run-up ministerial meetings ahead of the G7 leaders' June summit in Charlevoix, Que., but its timing is giving foreign ministers a chance to discuss key developments in the North Korea nuclear standoff. "Russian Federation has organized in Ukraine a training ground to further destabilize other democratic nations", Klimkin said. Russian Federation has denied involvement.

Freeland invited Klimkin to be part of Sunday's talks, hosting him and other ministers at her home for a traditional brunch that was prepared by her own children.

Trump has nominated Pompeo to be US secretary of state but Pompeo isn't in Toronto as his confirmation faces opposition in the Senate.

The meetings are not expected to discuss further punitive measures against Moscow because Britain, France, Germany and Italy are members of the 28-nation European Union, which must agree collectively on what steps to take, said two diplomats briefed on the meeting.

On January 30, Trump asked the Congress to address the flaws in the "terrible Iran nuclear deal", after in late October, the United States president refused to re-certify the nuclear deal, accusing Tehran of violating the agreement.
