Knicks to reach out to Jay Wright about coaching job

Clippers head coach Doc Rivers shouts to his team in the first half against the Jazz on April 5 in Salt Lake City

According to ESPN the two-year head coach was given his walking papers when the Knicks returned to ny after the team won the meaningless final game of the season (couldn't even tank right).

Hornacek was informed of the decision upon the team's return home following their regular-season finale against the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. He's also had success as a head coach, leading the New Orleans Pelicans to two playoff appearances in five years before being fired in 2015. Considering Jay Wright is "only" 56, the truly staggering thing about Villanova's run is that there's a chance it's only just getting started. But then again this is the Knicks so there's always a good chance they'll somehow drop the f*ck out the top 20 of the National Basketball Association draft.

Van Gundy would consider coming back to coaching, but he would want a ready-made victor, not a rebuilding job. Hornaceks antics, both on and off the court, constantly drove fans to the edge and caused for a positive look on the coaches departure.

"Jim [Dolan] has given us the room to be patient, which again is not something that's been common in this organization", Mills said, referring to the Knicks' owner.

Hornacek had preached patience earlier on Wednesday, saying he was confident the Knicks were on the verge of being competitive. I like happy better than a new challenge. I love what we're doing. "Yes", he said. "But I have to give this up in order to do that, and I don't see that happening".

The Knicks finished this season at 29-53, going 5-20 after the season-ending knee injury to Kristaps Porzingis.

The Knicks will also be entering an enticing free-agent market in the summer of 2019. Noah wasn't around the team the last few weeks of the season.

"It would be great to have a coach I could have for more than two years, you know", Hardaway said Thursday. The immediate list of candidates has featured retreads and/or those with past ties to the franchise, but the New York Daily News has reported the Knicks will reach out to Jay Wright about the job opening.

Hornacek, previously a head coach for three years in Phoenix, was surprised when he became Jackson's choice, since they had little relationship other than facing off in the NBA Finals when Hornacek played for Utah and Jackson coached the Chicago Bulls.

JVG has 37 playoff wins on his resume as Knicks head coach.

Mills continued to say the Knicks are rebuilding, with Perry saying there would be no quick fixes.

Mills and Perry hope that taking a patient approach to their rebuild will yield better results.
