More advertisers drop Laura Ingraham after comments about Parkland survivor, David Hogg

A combination of file photos show media personality Ingraham in Washington and student Hogg, at a rally in Washington Thomson Reuters (Reuters) - Fox News show host Laura Ingraham announced on her show late Friday that she is taking next week off, after nearly a dozen advertisers dropped her show after the conservative pundit mocked a teenage survivor of the Florida school massacre on Twitter.

According to reports, more than 10 advertisers have either pulled away or completely dropped running commercials on Ingraham's weekday show.

Soooo @IngrahamAngle what are your biggest advertisers ... "As such, we have made a decision to stop advertising on that program", TripAdvisor said in a statement. But the right-wing talk show host has decades of bullying behavior on her resume, particularly against the LGBT community.

"#ShutUpAndBeObjective", Hogg tweeted later Thursday, playing off Ingraham's previous suggestion that LeBron James should "shut up and dribble" after James criticized President Donald Trump. "I think it's really disgusting, the fact that she basically tried promoting her show after apologizing to me".

"She's only apologizing after a third of her advertisers pulled out", the gun control activist continued, referencing the advertising boycott he called for after her tweet.

The swift results showcase the power that the Parkland survivors have, not just in organising rallies but in spurring corporate America to act.

It is worth noting the brands have cut chords with the show and may choose to continue courting the Fox News audience in other time slots. Hogg went as far as to publish the private names and emails of executives at Arby's to pressure them into pulling their advertisements.

"Laura Ingraham needs a few classes in compassion", tweeted the author Stephen King. Mr. Hogg said he was unimpressed by the apology.

In declining to accept Ingraham's apology, David Hogg tweeted, "I will only accept your apology only if you denounce the way your network has treated my friends and I in this fight".

In 2015, Ingraham said providing transition-related care to trans children was tantamount to "child abuse". She then published the transcript, outing many of them to classmates, and sent tapes of the meetings to the students' parents.

Hogg has become one of the most visible of the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, in which 17 people died.

Hogg, who carries an impressive GPA and has an SAT score of 1270, posted in fairly good humor on social media about college rejections he'd recently received.

Ingraham tweeted about the comments on Wednesday, saying Hogg "whines about" the rejections.

In response to her apology, Hogg also retweeted one of his sister, Lauren Hogg's tweets in which she suggests the apology lacked a certain sincerity coming, as it did, after advertisers began to bail.

Ingraham's latest abuse hit her in the pocketbook, as Hogg's call for a boycott of The Ingraham Angle has cost the show numerous advertisers.
