Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly drilled Tyler Austin between the shoulder blades Wednesday night at Fenway Park, setting off a benches-clearing brawl in the top of the seventh. He fanned eight, walked none and allowed the homer plus seven harmless hits to finally register his first win of the season.

The Yankees vs. Red Sox bout was the second fight that happened in the league Wednesday.

Don't expect the Yankees to get blown out by 13 again, but the Red Sox are off to the hottest start in baseball. After striking out on three pitches in his first at-bat, he lasted only four pitches before Sale retired him swinging on a 95-mph fastball around his neck. The first three batters he faced - Betts, Andrew Benintendi and Hanley Ramirez - all reached base and the Sox were up 1-0 in a heartbeat. "We scored six runs and we were so excited about it ... and the manager missed that one".

Nationals 4, Braves 1: Stephen Strasburg threw eight scoreless innings, and Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run triple in the first to give Washington all the offense it needed to defeat visiting Atlanta.

If the plan holds, there will be more of those with Betts right in the middle of things, much like he was two years ago. Tanaka is 1-1 through two starts with a 2.92 ERA, losing his last start to the Orioles.

Boston's offense pounded out 11 hits, six for extra bases. He is 8-8 with a 3.27 ERA, a 1.225 WHIP, 29 walks and 89 strikeouts over 118.1 innings of work against them. He is 15-11 with a 4.53 ERA in 38 career appearances (37 starts) against NY.

The Yankees have had a lackluster start to the season but they may be showing some signs of life.

For the other team in NY, it was an 8-6 win over the lowly Miami Marlins, but with the victory the Mets moved to 9-1 for the season - the best start in franchise history.

The Yankees are still waiting for tests back on third baseman Brandon Drury (severe migraines, blurred vision). This year they added 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, who hit 59 home runs last year. Boston has seen the under go 35-15-2 in their last 52 during game 3 of a series, 16-5 in Porcello's last 21 starts during game 3 of a series, 9-3 in Porcello's last 12 starts following a quality start in his last appearance and 5-2 in his last seven starts overall. The Yankees themselves sit at 5-6 as they are off to a slower start than many may have anticipated.
