Tim Tebow hits home run in first Double-A at-bat

It's opening day for baseball in Binghamton and downtown businesses are preparing for a pregame rush.

Despite the chilly temperature and occasional snow flurries, it was an exciting day to be at the ballpark.

He may end up getting bumped up a bit after tonight. The guy that got a two-run homer (Peter Alonso) - nobody's going to talk about that tomorrow. The only glitch in his debut came when he ran into a chain-link fence chasing a fly ball in foul territory along the left-field line in the third inning Thursday night, but he quickly shook it off. On the first pitch he saw in Double-A, Tebow launched a home run off Portland Sea Dogs right-hander Teddy Stankiewicz.

Two on for Tebow, and here we go.

If Tebow keeps doing what he did in his first Double-A at-bat, he will be in Queens at some point.

Jeff McNeil also added a solo shot in the second inning. And his Rumble Ponies debut was one to remember.

"Any time you have support, our entire team is feeling really good", Tebow said. "I think he deserves it". Shoot, even the weather, not out getting to fully practice the past few days.

Tim Tebow sure knows how to rise to the occasion. After a spring training stint with the New York Mets, Tebow was assigned to the team's AA affiliate - the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

"Knowing that in every first at-bat that he's gotten in his professional career, he's done the same thing".

"I was pretty cynical", he said. I wish him all the best.

First pitch and it's GONE!

The game was also Darren Fenster's first as Sea Dogs manager after replacing Carlos Febles.
