A Russian woman tragically died after she was administered embalming fluids instead of saline during a routine surgery, according to reports.

Fedyaeva's mother accused the medical team of "murder" after her daughter suffered awful pains and convulsions for two days before going into coma.

According to Galina Baryshnikova, Fedyaeva's mother, her daughter suffered extreme pain and convulsions for two days before slipping into a coma and passing away.

Ms Fedyaeva was given a lethal dose of formaldehyde, which is normally injected into corpses to prevent them decomposing.

Baryshnikova said after her daughter was given the drip, she suffered chronic stomach pains and vomiting. She was moved to a top hospital in Moscow and awoke briefly from the coma, but doctors were not able to save her, and she died of multiple organ failure.

"Her legs were moving, she had convulsions, her whole body was shaking". "For 14 hours after surgery she was living with this formalin and they did nothing".

"Baryshnikova continued, saying, "[the formalin] was simply eroding her body from the inside", and that the "people who performed the surgery knew that they infused something wrong.

The woman was then placed on life support and her heart stopped beating in several instances, according to the newspaper.

Hospital staff reported that they noticed the mistake roughly two minutes into the procedure and took steps to flush the mixture from her body.

Doctors had earlier used 52 different drugs to try combat the effects of the formalin drip, but they were ultimately unsuccessful.

Galina went in search of doctors and found them in a huddle 'discussing how to tell them that a bad mistake had been made'.

"And they knew very well that they washed up her body with a poison - and they did nothing to help", she said. Baryshnikova claims that the original hospital staff treated her with little respect and told her to "go home" when she questioned their care of her daughter.

But they didn't admit exactly what had happened, with a female doctor allegedly telling her: "A medical mistake took place".

'It is such a crime, ' she said.

Ekaterina was buried on 7 April and a criminal investigation is underway. "But this is pure murder".
