Let's hope the developers read the feedback they are receiving and move quickly to remove this message bomb before it becomes widespread and more WhatsApp users have their smartphone's operating system crash.
The message consists of a black icon, clicking on that black icon will cause your WhatsApp to freeze or make it unresponsive.
WhatsApp has a new update (again) and it's one you're going to love. The first one involves an ominous black dot that comes with a warning on what will happen if you tap on it, while the other is worse because doesn't come with any warning. This WhatsApp bug when opened, cannot just crash the WhatsApp Android app, but even the entire Android device as well.
However, there is no cause for concern as the bug was merely invented to vex users.
WhatsApp application is freezing but the black dot is not the actual culprit here, there is a small hidden trick in this message. Also, avoid forwarding such messages to others.
The message is in a simple text in quoted form, it looks like "This is very interesting", with the "laughing so much I'm crying" emoji. Previously, it was reported that sending string of Telugu characters could easily crash iMessage wherein the company immediately fixed the bug in the next iOS update. The source of this message is not known yet.
Reportedly, these WhatsApp messages are nothing but prank and there seem to be nothing malicious about them. If a specially crafted message, found on Pastebin, is sent to a device, it can manifest in the aforementioned behavior, thanks to tens of thousands of invisible "left-to-right" and "right-to-left" control characters placed between the emoji and the final quotation marks. If you receive such messages, the best idea is to delete it.
