Thompson shot 13 of 23 from the field and knocked down nine 3-pointers in Game 6 to help Golden State defeat the Rockets 115-86.
Curry (the Warriors $201 million point guard) passed up the big shot, opting to trust Green to catch a pass and either stick a game victor or hit Klay Thompson in the corner.
"I guarantee if we start [Game 7] out like we did tonight and they jump out to the lead, it's going to be 10 times harder to make it a game", Warriors guard Stephen Curry said. "We worked too hard this season". Game 7 now heads back to Houston, but Chris Paul is reportedly considered unlikely to play.
Having him on hand still meant so much.
First, the lapses: Instead of playing with the kind of desperation and hustle needed to avoid elimination, the Warriors played with regular-season sluggishness.
And no matter what happens in Game 7, one thing is for certain: Thompson's mind-set will be just the same as it was in Game 6.
As the Warriors were in the midst of an incredible second half which featured them outscoring the Houston Rockets 64-25, part of the impressive stretch may have included a little help from an outsider.
"Yeah, we've been trying to get back to being us all series", Kerr said.
"There's no pressure", said Harden, who had 32 points and nine assists but committed nine turnovers in Game 6. "What do we gotta do to win Game 7? As I said, the two-way ability of this guy hounding the MVP of the league, most likely, all game, and continuing to rain down 3-pointers, he's wonderful".
When Paul strolled into practice Friday morning after the game and after the night talking with Harden, he was smiling and laughing.
James Harden leads all scorers with 22 points. Without Chris Paul, the Rockets began to look disorganized in the third quarter. "It's a bone bruise, there's not sort of a timetable, it's more just up to the individual and how he's feeling, and we don't really know".
No arguing they both appreciate Thompson's no-fear shooting approach and ability to nearly single-handedly turn the tide of a game with a timely 3-pointer or two - or nine.
"I don't know if I was born for it", Thompson said afterwards, when asked about his steadiness given the huge stakes.
The series returns to Houston for the final game of the series on Memorial Day. And we found ourselves with a Western Conference finals series knotted at three games apiece instead. The Houston Rockets are allowing 37.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 42.9 rebounds per game. But I thought we had a couple breakthroughs that were going to lead to this game. This legend says that the National Basketball Association rigs playoff series so they will go to game seven, thereby earning them more money.
