The network announced Sunday they were picking up the action drama once more, but that Crawford was out as Martin Riggs following incidents of bad behavior on set.

'Riggs was a dream role and the experience will live with me forever. Matthew Miller is the creator and showrunner, with Warner Bros.

Lethal Weapon has gone from being in serious jeopardy to scoring a surprise season three renewal thanks to a shrewd re-casting. But following his two counts of misbehaviour he has now been officially replaced, and the newbie will be American Pie actor Seann William Scott.

According to a press release from Fox, the network's TV reboot of the Mel Gibson-Danny Glover buddy-cop film franchise has been renewed for a third season, with the "American Pie" alum added to the cast to replace Clayne Crawford, who was sacked from the show over unspecified abusive behaviour on the set.

Lethal Weapon recently showcased the plot line for Clayne Crawford's exit in the May 8 Season 2 Finale.

Back on May 8 one of the show's two leads, Clayne Crawford, was sacked from the show.

Prior to the official firing on Sunday, Crawford had spent the last few days re-posting and responding to those who've spoken out to show support for the embattled actor.

"Warner Bros. Television has decided not to renew Clayne Crawford's contract for Lethal Weapon". Despite the studio's repeated reprimands, the actor did nothing to change his behavior and Warners instead opted to fire him rather than take a large financial blow and have Fox cancel the series. Crawford apologized and provided details of the incidents in an Instagram post: In one, he "reacted with anger" when he felt the safety of cast and crewmembers was at risk during the filming of an episode, and in another, an actor was hit with a piece of shrapnel while Crawford was directing an episode. With Scott replacing Crawford, the show won't have to figure out whether Lethal Weapon could continue without a Riggs, and will give it a go with Scott being a maniac with a badge. "When everyone seems to know your future but you". I hope I'm not fired!
