All events take place Monday, May 28 unless otherwise noted. The Rantoul Township High School band will be part of the service.
Memorial Day Breakfast, 9-11 a.m. Dansville Community Center, 1317 Mason St. The parade will go down Main Street and turn to end at First Citizens Bank. The parade route will be from Monroe Avenue and Lyon Street and ending at Veterans Memorial Park on Fulton Street and Sheldon Boulevard. The tribute runs from 10 a.m.to noon. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Legion post on Main Street in Thawville. Participants are asked to line up at the school no later than 9:30 a.m.
Many Americans use Memorial Day as a celebration of the unofficial start of the summer season. Speakers will include East Moline Mayor Reggie Freeman; Command Sgt. Maj. A Haverhill High School student is expected to recite "The Gettysburg Address", by former President Abraham Lincoln and a Whittier Vocational Technical High School student is expected to deliver General Logan's Order. The scouts have collected more than 600 flags and the public is invited to bring their own flags and participate in the ceremony.
- The city will hold its Memorial Day Parade on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
The Justin Bauer Memorial Berthoud American Legion is hosting the annual Memorial Day Ceremony in Berthoud Cemetary starting at 9 a.m. on Monday. "Anyone wanting to help needs to be at the American Legion Hall, located at 321 Market St.in Metropolis, at 7 a.m. on Saturday". Afterward, the parade will return to the American Legion post.
A ceremony will be held at 10 a.m.at Ludlow Cemetery.
Line-up begins at 10:30 a.m., at the Cranberry Lake Firehouse on Route 206 and will proceed to the Cranberry Lake Clubhouse for a brief ceremony. A ceremony will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery. Light refreshments and cookies will be served following the program until 11:30 a.m. while the church remains open for fellowship. The service will be moved to 11 a.m.at Coralville American Legion, 901 Second St., in the event of rain.
- The Korean War Veterans of Hudson County will be honoring all veterans tomorrow at the Korean War Monument at Washington and Dudley Street at 10 a.m. The event is hosted by the Boyd County Addiction Resource Center and is free for everyone.
A free lunch will be available following the service at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post, 428 W. Orange St.
Many weekend ceremonies, parades and memorial services have been scheduled throughout the area in observance of Memorial Day.
A Memorial Day service will be held Monday, May 28, at 11 a.m.at the All Veterans Monument at Osceola Mills. Following the service, there will be a parade from the memorial to the VFW Post No. 7415, 214 Market St.
In the first year of Logan's declaration, an estimated 183 cemeteries hosted observances for Memorial Day, more commonly known as Decoration Day. The parade will wind down Mammoth to the Town Common for traditional services.
The Sussex American Legion Post 213 will hold its annual services on Monday, May 28, at the following locations: Woodbourne Park, 8:30 a.m.; Beemerville, 9 a.m.; Sussex Middle School, 9:30 a.m.; Sussex Fire House, 10 a.m.; Deckertown, 10:30 a.m.; Fairview, 11 a.m.; and Clove, 11:30 a.m. Local Boy Scouts will present the colors of the United States and hold a flag retirement ceremony afterwards. Pat's parking lot across from the VFW post. The parade will step off at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held there.
