Mark Williams stayed true to his word last night, after pledging to appear naked at the post-event press conference if he won the 2018 World Championship.

The three-time world champion looked forward to returning to the Crucible next year and promised to outdo himself if he defended his title.

"To be honest, if I won this next year, I'd do it again".

To mark his remarkable achievement Williams pledged to "party" in a post-victory press conference which the 43-year-old delivered in just a towel.

"It's an unbelievable story", he said.

Mark Williams won a third world title and stripped naked for the snooker media. "I'm not going to bed this time - it'll be daylight before I get to bed!" Before confirming his intentions as he lifted the trophy: "As long as Barry Hearn isn't going to fine me or discipline me I'll have to do it".

Newly-crowned world snooker champion Mark Williams has vowed to perform naked cartwheels if he repeats his stunning triumph next year - after stripping off in celebration of his nail-biting victory.

'I'm not going to emulate him [Reardon],' said Williams.

Having stretched his lead to 14-7, Williams saw Higgins fight his way back as Higgins made exactly the start to the evening session that he needed, reeling off three frames in 50 minutes. I've done something I never thought I'd do again'.

He then told reporters that there would be naked cartwheels if he managed to defend his world title in 2019.

"What a match to be involved in", said Williams.

'It sounds like such a simple thing, but I've never seen him striking the ball so well.' A fifth title continues to elude Higgins, who fell at the final hurdle for the second straight year.

Williams, previously triumphant in 2000 and 2003, lost in the final round of qualifying a year ago.

"I enjoyed that one more than the other ones I've been in". Higgins had not expected another chance but came back to the table and cleared up with a 65 break, vintage snooker from the four-time champion.

Higgins was beaten, but he had played his part in one of the greatest Crucible finals. "The break in the last frame was one of the best I've made under pressure in my life".
