Mumbai: Actor Arbaaz Khan has reportedly been summoned by the police in Maharashtra in connection with betting in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to police, the actor's name allegedly came up during the interrogation of Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Malad, a bookie "with global links".

It is believed Batla was in contact with many Bollywood celebrities including Arbaaz Khan, and also with wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

Son of celebrated Bollywood writer Salim Khan, Arbaaz is the younger brother of superstar Salman Khan and film-maker Sohail Khan. The cops are also on the lookout for the boss of IPL cricket betting who goes under the name Junior Kolkatta. In fact, continuing with the spate of arrests in the latest IPL betting case, the Thane police had apprehended Sonu Jalan, a bookie who has also been linked to the underworld.

It is heard that Arbaaz Khan was in touch with bookie Sonu Jalan and lost approximately Rs. 2.83 Cr as per initial estimates. "We are interrogating him about these links and about his money". Arbaaz was summoned for alleged placements of money on matches during the 11th season of the IPL through bookies, it was reported.

The Investigating Officer, Pradeep Sharma said, the police are presently working to verify whether Arbaz khan indulged in any match fixing or not. He was arrested in connection with a betting racket that was busted in Dombivali on May 16. The bookies were allegedly using a software to place bets online. He was operating the betting racket from Mumbai and was arrested on Tuesday. "We want to find out from Arbaaz what was his role in the entire matter", said Kothmire who is probing the matter.
