Reports emerging late on Thursday evening suggest a breakthrough has been made as Liverpool look to sign Nabil Fekir from Lyon.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has ruled out finding a resolution before the World Cup begins, though, saying the deal is at a "standstill".

French outlet L'Equipe claim a medical will be undertaken by Friday, with Melissa Reddy saying that the deal is expected to be confirmed on Friday. Liverpool, however, continued to press ahead with negotiations and appear to have broken Aulas's resolve to keep the attacking midfielder until after the World Cup in the hope of starting an auction.

Nabil Fekir is to undergo a medical with Liverpool on Friday after the Reds thrashed out a fee with Lyon for his services.

Les Bleus will take on the United States this weekend, in their final World Cup tune-up.

"The [transfer] will certainly not close during the World Cup and I do not think there is any change before the World Cup. We haven't set a price tag because we haven't discussed this [Fekir's transfer] yet".

Naby Keita has joined from RB Leipzig after a £66m deal was agreed last summer and Fabinho joined from Monaco last week in a deal worth around £39m.

Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in the French worldwide - but Liverpool are now in the driving seat.

The Swiss winger was part of the Stoke City side relegated last season and has been clear about his plans to exercise a relegation release clause written into his contract with the Potters.
