TheWrap reports Val Kilmer is set to reprise his role in the long-awaited Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Joseph Kosinski is directing Top Gun: Maverick from a script by Eric Warren Singer, Peter Craig and Justin Marks. There is not a lot known about the plot of the sequel to Tony Scott's hit from the '80s, but info continues to keep trickling out.

Cruise shared the first photo from the set of the Top Gun sequel last week, posting a pic of himself stepping right back into his old uniform.

"Iceman" will return to join "Maverick" in the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, out July 12, 2019, in the US. Tom Cruise is returning as Maverick, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously said that the film will deal with the rise of unmanned drones and pilots becoming a thing of the past.

Well, guess what? Val Kilmer has been roped in for the second edition of the film as well which has been titled as "Top Gun: Maverick". In fact, no one even knows if Iceman, real name Tom Kazansky, will still feel the same way about Maverick as he did at the end of the original, when he told him, "You can be my wingman anytime". With Kenny Loggins on board for a new version of "Danger Zone", this movie just keeps getting better.
