Rumoured Liverpool target Manuel Lanzini suffers major injury

Argentina confirm Manuel Lanzini is out of the World Cup with ACL injury

Manuel Lanzini will not feature for Argentina at the World Cup

Argentina have called up River Plate midfielder, Enzo Perez, as a last-minute replacement for injured Manuel Lanzini.

The 25 year-old's ruptured anterior knee ligament injury is not just a blow for Argentina, but something that fans at the London Stadium will surely be concerned about.

Lanzini, a Slaven Bilic signing from Al Jazira for West Ham back in 2015, will be understandably extremely disappointed to miss his first World Cup tournament.

The West Ham midfielder was set to start next to Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria in Argentina's attacking midfield line, behind Gonzalo Higuaín, but will now have to watch his compatriots from his sofa. The runners-up from 2014 will open the World Cup against Iceland on June 16th.

The West Ham United player has suffered a bad ACL injury and is out of the team.

Lanzini will be in recovery for several months and is a serious doubt for the start of West Ham's 2018/19 campaign in the Premier League. Lanzini would have been an option starting for Jorge Sampaoli, and given Argentina some speed and spark in a potential win or go home scenario.

They will now have to deal with a new player being drafted in after Lanzini's serious injury.
