Local daily La Nuova Sardegna said Clooney, 57, had been headed to a film set on Tuesday when his motorbike was hit by a vehicle.

The 57-year-old Academy Award victor was traveling on a state road in Costa Corallina, a province of Olbia, when the crash occurred, TGCOM24 reported.

A picture from La Nuova suggests that Clooney hit a auto while on the motorway.

George Clooney "smashed in to a windscreen" when his scooter collided with a auto in Sardinia.

George reportedly felt "a slight trauma to the pelvis and bruises to one leg and an arm", and was given an MRI at the nearby John Paul II hospital, according to local outlet, La Nuova.

Clooney is now on the island filming a new TV series "Catch-22", based off the book of the same name written by Joseph Heller. Authorities say that Clooney was not seriously injured and confirm he was released from the hospital a short time later.

Clooney, 57, plays US Air Force commander Scheisskopf in the World War Two Channel 4 drama, based on Joseph Heller's classic novel.

George and Amal were seen arrive in the island on a private jet at the end of June with their twins Alexander and Ella.

They all came together at the up-market Il Marino di Puntaldia restaurants after George had finished filming.

George and Amal met back in 2013 when Amal attended a party at the Ocean's Eleven star's house in Lake Como, Italy.
