Joe Root's exclusion from the Twenty20 series decider against India on Sunday will fuel the England test captain's desire to improve going into this week's opening one-day global between the sides, interim head coach Paul Farbrace has said.
"Every player goes through a period where you either find it tough or you've left out the side", Farbrace told reporters. The right-hander had to make way for talisman all-rounder Ben Stokes who was returning after an injury layoff.

England assistant coach Paul Farbrace said Test captain Joe Root will get better at his job by learning from his one-day counterpart Eoin Morgan.
With the ODI World Cup scheduled to be held here next year, the three-match series will also give Kohli and his teammates a fair idea of the playing condition in England. Thus, it isn't a regular sight when Root is shown the exit doors.
Farbarce went on to add Joe Root is part of their T20I plans in times to come. "That's a skill that Joe has - he has the ability to hit boundaries".
And, more urgently, if the sun continues to shine on Virat Kohli's India, who have already won the Twenty20 series, they could turn this into the most chastening of summers for England across all formats. I was a little surprised to see Kuldeep left out only one game after his match-winning performance in Manchester, but I am sure he and Yuzvendra Chahal will have a big role to play in the ODI series. He might not have the raw power of a Stokes or a Bairstow but he has strong cricket shots, even in 20-over cricket, which will get you your reward. Runs are your currency - that's what you're selected on.
The 3 match ODI series will give Indian team management a chance to mix and matches various combination, keeping in mind the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
While Root excelled for England in their run to the final of the 2016 World Twenty20, there are concerns about his recent lack of T20 experience: he has only played seven T20 matches since September 2016.
