JioGigaFiber launched, to disrupt Indian broadband market

Last year's AGM of RIL marked the launch of JioPhone, Reliance Jio's feature phone, which was made available for a refundable deposit of Rs 1,500. As part of the Jio Phone Monsoon Hungama offer, JioPhone users will be able to exchange their phone for the JioPhone 2 for just Rs.501. Users can register for the services from August 15 from the MyJio app and Jio's official website.

Ambani said on Thursday that Jio had amassed 215 million customers as he announced his plans to boost India's fixed-line broadband coverage with the launch of Jio Giga Fiber on Aug 15. It will be an interconnected network for Internet, TV, Voice, and Home platforms.

According to him, optical fibre-based fixed line broadband is the future and the company has already invested over Rs 250,000 crores for creating state-of-the-art digital infrastructure to provide mobile and broadband connectivity across the country with the largest fiber footprint. "While India has pole-vaulted into global leadership in the mobile broadband space, we still lag significantly behind in fixed line broadband".

Reliance a year ago launched the JioPhone, which allowed digital payments and was effectively free: buyers could get a device for a refundable fee of 1,500 rupees.

This new launch by the RIL is expected to disrupt the home broadband services segment of India. Jio GigaFiber FTTH services will be made available in 1100 cities in the country, although there was no specific time frame given for launch. It is still unclear whether all features that are available for WhatsApp and YouTube users on Android and iOS will make it to Jio Phone or not.

Nearly two years after rolling out its mobile services, Reliance Jio is now gearing up to bring another disruption in the telecom industry.

Reliance Jio is nothing but a digital revolution in India as far as cheap mobile phone and low-priced high-speed internet connectivity is concerned. Dubbed as JioGigaFiber, the broadband connectivity will be extended to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises.

Jio is also going to roll out "revolutionary" smart home solutions. It features the Jio GigaTV calling feature too, which will let you call TV connected to Jio GigaFiber or smartphone connected to any network.

To complete a smart home setup, Reliance Jio will also be offering a range of Jio Smart Home Accessories like Door Sensor, Smart Plugs, Smart Speakers, Smart Doorbells, and more.

Starting on August 15, we have another exciting offer for common Indians.
