ITVJordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren share a touching moment before England face Croatia

"People should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense".

"Yes, I was good against Kane but yesterday before the game I received a question like 'what do you think about the 4-1 when Liverpool played Tottenham?'"

Lovren and his team-mates helped shackle England captain Harry Kane during last night's 2-1 extra time victory, and will now face France in Sunday's decider.

The 29-year-old has been criticised for his performances for Liverpool this season but has played a key role in Croatia's success in Russian Federation this summer.

This victory over England led Croatia to their first World Cup final and Mario Mandzukic's extra-time victor sealed Croatia's third consecutive win in extra-time or penalties, having beaten Denmark and Russian Federation in penalty shootouts in the previous two rounds.

"I live in England and have two players in the England team, so I was a little bit more for England", he said.

Lovren's Croatia team defeated England in Wednesday's World Cup semi-final to take their place in the Moscow showpiece against France.

He continued: 'This is something we will never forget. We showed our character, we showed that we deserved to be in the final and people should respect us. We beat our record 20 years ago and we had it on our shoulders all the time, this weight I would say and people now will never forget us. Lovren agreed that the first 45 minutes was tough as his side failed to take control of the ball. In extra time we showed that we are still able with the fatigue to play our game.

"Modric is not one of the best, (he is) the best midfield player in the world, and if we win this World Cup, he deserves the Ballon d'Or".

"After all we went through, we deserve to be here", he said.
