Putin kept Trump waiting before summit

President Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin deliver opening remarks in Helsinki before their closed-door meeting.

The revelation comes just three days before Trump is expected to meet for diplomatic talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ahead of his summit with Putin, Trump has both lowered expectations for the talks and issued a stunning rebuke of what has traditionally been one of Washington's closest allies.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse", Trump tweeted Monday morning, blaming "many years of US foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!".

"Missed opportunity by President Trump to firmly hold Russian Federation accountable for 2016 meddling and deliver a strong warning regarding future elections", Graham tweeted.

When asked by a reporter whether he believed the various USA institutions that asserted Russian interference or Vladimir Putin, Trump did not provide a direct answer.

"Anybody - I don't care what their political affiliation is - who seeks to prevent or sabotage this summit or its outcome, I ask this question: Do they prefer impeaching President Trump to averting war with Russian Federation?" "We are the two great nuclear powers".

"I'm not going in with high expectations but we may come out with some very surprising things", Trump said during his United Kingdom news conference.

Despite the fact that White House Special Counsel Robert Mueller's year-long investigation has failed to disclose any proof of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Clinton continues to see Russian boogeymen everywhere.

"I think really we mistake our response if we think it's about accountability from the Russians", Paul told CNN's Jake Tapper. They met on the sidelines of world leader meetings in Germany and Vietnam past year.

But after the talks, both leaders welcomed the meeting as a "good start" and a "very successful" one.

Trump said the leaders' discussions would cover trade, the military, missiles, nuclear, China - "our mutual friend, President Xi" - but did not mention election interference.

Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer who is aiding Mr. Trump in the Russian Federation investigation, used Rosenstein's announcement as an opportunity to call on Mueller to end his investigation and declare Mr. Trump's innocence. "I think you see for yourself that these efforts failed, and they were never bound to succeed", he said.

The press briefing follows a one-on-one summit between Trump and Putin. Several Senate Democrats wrote to Trump on Saturday to warn him against meeting alone with Putin, to no avail. "We spent a great deal of time talking about it". Putin ridiculed as "sheer nonsense" allegations that Russian intelligence agencies had collected compromising information on Trump during his visit to Moscow years before the election, saying that he had no idea Trump was even visiting. "I did it. You got me,"' said Trump, invoking a television detective. "And we can't take ... on face value anything they tell us". Russian Federation was kicked out of the group in 2014 in response to its illegal annexation of Crimea.

He didn't mention a USA grand jury's indictments of 12 Russian intelligence agents on Friday or the Kremlin's interference in the 2016 US election.

The indictment does not answer the question of whether the Russians were reacting to Trump's speech.

But the U.S. leader insisted that the Kremlin chief had delivered a "powerful" denial of any Russian manipulation, and said the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller was proving a "disaster" for the United States.
