The mode was initially launched last Wednesday morning with the game's regular weekly update, but was taken offline by developers at Epic Games shortly afterwards, along with all other Fortnite modes, when the influx of players caused a crash in the game's matchmaking software.
As well as Playground Mode, Epic has released Content Update 4.5 with a handful of new weapons.
Here's the latest from Epic Games, who reports: "We've completed our testing process for the improvements to our matchmaking services and are deploying servers that will bring back the Playground LTM". "There is the possibility that you may encounter an error, as many players are attempting to join this game mode". We're going to closely monitor our stability over this time.
It's unclear whether Epic Games will tweak this in the future so that "Don't fill" can be chosen directly in the Playground option, but for now you have to make your choice in Duos, then toggle back to the PG Mode. Get out there and enjoy the LTM while it's still available. Here's how to change Playground Mode to Don't fill. There are likely lots of people trying to get in at the same time.
"Matchmaker tries its best, but eventually ends up like Lucy at the candy factory".
The limited time mode is essentially a practice arena that allows players to practice shooting and building to their heart's desire.
"We're already starting preparations on a detailed public postmortem to let everyone peer behind the curtain and into the challenges, mistakes, and breakthroughs we're experiencing as we tackle this issue".
