Top Gun 2: Miles Teller to Play Goose's Son Opposite Tom Cruise

What do you think about Teller joining Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick?

How excited you'll be about all this will depend on how excited you are about Miles Teller in general, or the idea of a Top Gun sequel.

Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are reprising their roles as Maverick and Iceman, respectively, in Top Gun 2, which began filming earlier this month.

Casting for the part had been heating up in recent weeks, with several young male stars floated as contenders. In the original film, Maverick and Goose, played by Tom Cruise and Anthony Edwards, respectively, were a pair of hotshot fighter pilots.

The 31-year-old actor announced the casting news on Twitter Tuesday.

"I'm taking down all the Tom Cruise posters in my bedroom", he wrote alongside the news. So maybe Goose a drone operator, one of the aforementioned "fifth generation fighters", or doesn't actually have anything to do with aviation.

Added another: "Miles Teller being cast over Glen Powell in the Top Gun sequel is good, because Glen would have made me care about this movie and now I can gleefully continue not giving a s-t". "Two for symmetry. Okay, the posters are staying", Glen tweeted. In the original pic, Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, was the co-pilot to Cruise's Maverick.

Goose dies tragically in the 1986 film, providing a great deal of the film's emotional resonance.

Tom Cruise has found his co-pilot.
