Manchester United have reportedly switched their focus to Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin in their frantic search for a new centre-back.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Diego Godin's agent used the club to get his client an improved deal at Atletico Madrid, reports claim. Mourinho is desperate for the signing of a new defender but has failed to find one so far.

Godin is into the final year of his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano, but Atletico are not actively looking to cash in and will therefore play hardball.

Signing Godin at this late stage would be incredible business by United, but it is also highly hard. With this in mind, a move for the 32-year-old Uruguayan worldwide would make sense. But Uruguay's signing can be a great news for the fans as he is considered as one of the best defender's in La Liga. The 32-year old was named in World Cup 2018's dream team after his rock-solid performances for Uruguay. He has 122 global caps and has scored 8 times for Uruguay.

In his press conference ahead of Friday's season opener against Leicester City, the Portuguese did not sound optimistic about his club's chances of signing anyone before the transfer window slams shut.

Having been linked with moves for Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng and Yerry Mina this summer, United suddenly began showing an interest in Chelsea's Kurt Zouma late on Wednesday night.
