The Colombian defender signed for a deal which could reach 31.75 million euros, after Barcelona signed him for little less than 12 in January.

'It is important that the club want to fight for something, ' Mina told evertontv. "This is why I am here".

There was a predictably frantic conclusion to the last hours of business, the Premier League waiting to register ten players after the 5pm deadline, deal sheets submitted pending medicals and the agreement of personal terms. It is the best league in the world. "When I found out about this opportunity and what the manager wanted out of me I was happy".

Gomes has always been a fringe player at Barcelona, despite signing for a fee of £31m plus €20m in add-ons in 2016, with only 46 appearances made in La Liga since joining from Valencia.

"I spoke with Andre, too".

"We have a very good squad, with very good players and it is very hard to add players to that", he said.

A summer that started with the intention of balancing the books ended with a flourish as Farhad Moshiri, Everton's major shareholder, sanctioned a deal for Mina, which took the club's spending to about...

The Toffees have splashed a total of £88m the transfer window, after also capturing Richarlison and Digne earlier on in the summer.

Barcelona can buy the centre-half back for around £30m if he does well at Goodison but, for now, he is an Everton player.

Minutes before the English transfer deadline closed on Thursday, Everton also announced the signing of Brazil playmaker Bernard on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk. The 23-year-old is expected to sign a five-year contract.

And speaking about his desires for his new side, Mina revealed he has sights set high.

"I know about Everton's players and I look forward to being able to play with my new team".

"For me, it was really good to speak to him because I know how good he is and I feel motivated to work with him and to play for Everton, a great club". "I am also determined to do my best for Everton".

Mina scored half of Colombia's six goals at the World Cup in Russian Federation as they reached the last-16 before losing to England.

However he is keen to quell any doubts over whether he can make an instant impact due to fitness.
