Last week, Buffalo Bills receiver - and former Carolina Panthers first-round pick - Kelvin Benjamin spoke to The Athletic's Tim Graham, telling him that Cam Newton was a detriment to his career.

Newton declined to speak to reporters after the game, but Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, who was talking with Benjamin before Newton arrived, said of the brush-up: "Just brothers having a conversation, that's really all it was".

Newton offered Benjamin a handshake, but the wide receiver walked away.

The meeting comes after Benjamin made comments criticizing his former team, Carolina, and quarterback, Newton. "It just felt like I wasn't in that position".

Initially, Newton's only response, posted in a video to social media, was to say that he wasn't "gonna go back and forth with him" but continue to "work".

"Moving on from it", Benjamin said repeatedly. This was not one of them.

"I've spoken with Kelvin, and that's not how I want us to handle things like that".

As for Benjamin, the Panthers actually had to deny reports last summer that Benjamin showed up to OTAs at 280 pounds. Newton followed, trying to catch up, before seeming to give up. I don't know, man ...

It was a not-so-veiled shot at Cam Newton, which led to a curious scene ahead of Thursday's preseason game between the Bills and Panthers.
