Klopp on West Ham win, Keita's debut and strength in depth

LIVERPOOL FC TWITTER CONFIRMED More stars are set to leave Liverpool

Jürgen Klopp has said Liverpool face an "unbelievably hard" Premier League season despite opening the campaign with a 4-0 rout of West Ham United, their biggest opening-day win at Anfield since 1932.

As for other scoring options, Daniel Sturridge won't start but he's been Liverpool's top scorer in pre-season and the rejuvenated striker could be worth a look for last goal at 7/2.

While this may be the strongest Liverpool squad in a quarter of a century, the dominance of Manchester City domestically, and the sheer quality in the Champions League means that the FA Cup and League Cup are still Jurgen Klopp's best chance to end the Reds trophy drought.

"We have to be in the championship mode", he said.

"I know that Salah was [thought] a good deal for Roma, but now people say it is a good deal for Liverpool". The Reds are one of the favorites to win the league, while the Hammers have spent over $100 million on new players, highlighted by talented Brazilian Felipe Anderson from Lazio. I'm pleased, absolutely, but actually that's what we expected. "We are the ones who have to do more and fight more - that must be our attitude".

Speaking of expectations, today's opponents are West Ham - but what sort of West Ham will they be?

The Argentine lined his men up in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation, but struggled against a pressing opposition spearheaded by the deadly trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Always you see things in pre-season [against] different opponents and in different moments, but now the Premier League is a proper fight and immediately today that's the biggest change and then you hope as a manager that your team is ready for that, because you can not test it before you have the test.

Given Manchester City's dominance in 2017-18, Liverpool's bosses would probably accept a runners-up finish, especially if it saw the club contending for much of the season.

Yet, he was given the simplest of tasks to tap home the opener into an empty net on 19 minutes from Andy Robertson's pinpoint cross after he was freed down the left by the impressive Keita.

And criminally West Ham allowed the hosts to add a second on the cusp of half time when Sadio Mane finished off James Milner's centre to give Liverpool a comfortable lead going into the interval.

The defeat leaves West Ham bottom of the Premier League after the opening weekend. Yes, it's a start - ideal as well because we won the game.

I believe the signings we have made are of huge potential, and that we have massively strengthened our attacking options, which quite clearly indicates the way in which Manuel Pellegrini wants his West Ham side to play.

He scored Liverpool's third and Sturridge came off the bench in the final few minutes to score at the far post from a corner with his first touch.
