With QuakeCon 2018 underway at the GayLord Texan Resort in Dallas, Texas, Bethesda kicked off their yearly keynote, with big announcements, including a gameplay reveal for Doom Eternal, which was first unveiled via cinematic trailer, during Bethesda's E3 2018 Press Conference.
Doom Eternal looks to be much more open and varied than its somewhat one-note predecessor. These include the Ballista, which fires an exploding bolt into enemies, and the Super Shotgun, which comes with a blade called the "Meat Hook" attached to the barrels.
"You're gonna love what you can do with that thing", Martin said. Take on twice as many demons in DOOM Eternal, including fan favorites from classic DOOM titles like the Archvile, Pain Elemental, and the Arachnotron. The Archenemy is like a weird, demonic skeleton centaur with a tank for legs, while the Marauder carries a giant red ax and somewhat resembles the Doomslayer.
Furthermore, during the presentation id Software showcased some demons that can be destroyed. "We're spending more time and energy than ever before making sure it feels absolutely wonderful every time you shoot, punch, kick, slash or otherwise rip and tear one of the demons", Stratton said.
What they also promised was the ability for you to possess demons and invade other player's games, and even team up with friends against other people. If ID Software could make that happen again, Doom Eternal might end up the best Doom yet. This will be evolving a bit in Eternal, with a new "invasion" mode being added to the campaign.
We unfortunately don't have a release date or window for DOOM Eternal just yet.
