Djokovic legend continues to grow following US Open triumph

After months of struggle and doubt, Novak Djokovic's remarkable comeback has reached its peak.

The Novak Djokovic vs Juan Martin del Potro US Open 2018 men's singles final match will start at 1.30 am IST on Sepetember 10 (late Sunday night in India).

Serving at 3-4 in the second set of Monday's final against Juan Martin del Potro, Djokovic was irked by the tennis balls and complained to the chair umpire.

Former world no. 1 missed the US Open last year due to a bothersome elbow that required surgery but post-surgery, Djokovic has returned to the fray and looks confident to lift the title this year.

Djokovic had lost five previous finals at Flushing Meadows, but he was determined to make amends for his lack of trophies in NY as his defensive ability combined with his ruthless prowess saw him break in the fourth game, although Del Potro was not in the mood to give up so easily as he hit straight back.

The third and final set almost followed the same script, as Djokovic again broke del Potro to take a 3-1 lead only for the Argentinian to break back and level the set at 3-3.

No controversy here: Novak Djokovic is the U.S. Open men's singles champion.

However, Del Potro and his mighty forehand came to the party, striking back in spectacular fashion to level at 3-3, while the support for the giant Argentine appeared to rattle Djokovic's concentration levels.

Djokovic took just 42 minutes to win the opening set, taking it 6-3, and battled past Del Potro in an enthralling tie-break in the second which enabled him to hold the ascendancy.

The US Open Men's singles final will be shown LIVE on Star Sports Select 1 and Star Sports Select 1 HD at around 1.30 am IST.
