Police in Suffolk County, Long Island, say that a 45-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to shoot an 11-year-old boy who he lost to while playing the video game "Fortnite".
"I'm going to find you with a gun", he raged, according to a criminal complaint.
A 45-year-old guy in NY was arrested on Monday night after he lost a game of "Fortnite" to an 11-year-old boy and threatened to go to his school and SHOOT HIM.
In the messages, which were allegedly sent via Xbox Monday night, police say Aliperti threatened to shoot the child, possibly at his school in Kings Park. Beside the second-degree assault charge, Aliperti's charges also include "acting in a manner to injure a child". "You dead. I will come to your house tonight and f*** your world up", Aliperti said in one of the messages sent to the 11 year old boy.
Online harassment through games is not an uncommon thing, though it rarely seems to lead to police involvement.
The child had been playing the popular third-person shooter game with Aliperti for several months.
'We took this as a school threat, ' Cameron said.
"Fortnite" is a free-to-play online video game that pits 100 players versus each other.
Moving forward, Fortnite's popularity will ensure that it stays in the headlines for both positive and negative reasons for the foreseeable future.
