Taking cue from the first encounter that took place at the same venue nearly exactly a year ago, and the turn of events concerning Alvarez away from the ring earlier in 2018, Triple G came into the fight as the favourite to retain his middleweight titles.

Who do you think won Golovkin vs. Alvarez II? Golovkin's jab began to find its' range and he finished the stronger of the two men, but each round was so close.

British boxing legend Ricky Hatton reckons Golovkin will overcome his nemesis.

"I had it close going into the 12th round", Sanchez said. "This is a very important victory to me and my country, and my country will be proud".

While the first fight resulted in a controversial draw and a deserved black eye for the sport, the rematch was everything the initial meeting wasn't.

He said: "My corner told me that I needed to win the round [final round] and that what's I did". Instead, he stayed in the center of the ring and brought the fight to Golovkin, but Triple-G was still not impressed with his style. He's a great opponent but every fighter depends on the fighter. Both fighters exchanged big, bruising blows throughout, neither allowing the other to seize momentum.

David Lemieux (40-4, 34KOs) of Montreal, Canada defeated Gary O'Sullivan (28-3, 22KOs) of Cork, Ireland via knockout in the first round of a middleweight bout scheduled for 12 rounds.

Lemiuex went pretty hard on O'Sullivan during his pre-fight trash talk.

There will be an very bad lot of talk for the next few weeks and that is one upside for the sport. He's a garbage talker and I'll shut him up on Saturday. "I'll be back guys; I'll be back".

When the scorecards were totalled Saturday night (Sunday NZT), though, the judges crowned a new middleweight champion of the world, but just barely.

Munguia claims the win after unloading a barrel of punches with one minute and three seconds remaining of round three. Both fighters dug deep for the so-called championship rounds but Golovkin seemed to have the edge.
