As expected with OnePlus, one of the most coveted smartphone brands in India, the device was subject to several leaks, teasers and speculations.
According to the American media website CNET, OnePlus has confirmed that the new flagship will be equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Last week, an alleged OnePlus 6T retail box had been leaked online, revealing a waterdrop notch and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. OnePlus 6T users willwill the options to choose which way they want to unlock their phone in a way which is most efficient for them, or use both.
Interestingly, OnePlus also revealed that it originally planned to stick an in-screen scanner into the OnePlus 5T a year ago, but left it until now because the tech "wasn't mature enough to meet [OnePlus'] standards for delivering a fast and smooth user experience". Named finger-on-display by Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, this feature was first meant to debut on the OnePlus 5T. It will rely on Face Unlock and the new tech in-display fingerprint sensor instead to lock/unlock the phones. This will be a first for OnePlus, which is now joining a slew of Android device makers that have adopted in-display fingerprint sensors.
OnePlus 6T, an upgrade of the bestselling OnePlus 6 is expected to launch this October. The triple camera setup was first seen in the Huawei P20 Pro, enabling it to top the DXO Mark rankings.
The company seems to be taking a gamble with this new technology. However, it is still unclear whether the company will launch multiple variants of the device and the price mentioned here will pertain to the base model or the higher-end version.
