China-based smartphone maker OnePlus has just announced that it is entering a new industry within the electronics industry with it's 'OnePlus TV'. Pete Lau, the CEO of the company stated that OnePlus has "been a team of dreamers, united in mission to share the best technology with the world" in an attempt to clarify the rationale behind this new product. Lau defended the decision to build an actual TV rather than a set-top box with the fact that switching between inputs on a TV can be cumbersome for many customers, and the aim is to create a seamless experience that does everything.
"We want to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity", he said. "The OnePlus TV is in the early stages of development, and could be launched next year".
As far as teasers go, this one is probably the least-revealing ever. With the OnePlus TV, the company will be looking forward to take on the likes on Xiaomi's Mi TVs in India, if only they can get the price right. There will also be a camera on the TV - video calling comes to mind - but Lau says OnePlus will have a solution for those concerned about privacy. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau made an announcement on the company forums that a smart TV was on the way.
We'll find out more about the new TV early next year, Lau said.
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer which built its name by producing a mobile phone almost as powerful as the iPhone at almost half the cost, is expanding their portfolio.
Lau says that OnePlus is taking its "first steps" towards building a Smart TV, which it calls as "OnePlus TV".
"At present, we feel the current market of TVs is still feeling quite traditional in their functionality and experience". However, OnePlus has something else to please its fans - a smart TV. He said the TV will be something like a smart home hub, capable of answering voice commands and controlling other devices. Android TV seems like a strong possibility. You'll need to submit your suggestion before October 17th. The next device in line in the OnePlus 6T scheduled for a launch within a month.
Chinese manufacturer OnePlus has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years, making a name for itself in the premium smartphone market for its value. But as OnePlus is known to offer the best of industry specs at an affordable price point, the OnePlus TV is similarly expected to come with the best of features at a very competitive price point.
" We have just gotten started", Lau said.
