The shooting happened near Shiloh Middle School, about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Gwinnett County police officer Antwan Toney, 30, was shot on Saturday while responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in a residential area near a middle school in Snellville. Police say Maynard remains at large and should be considered armed and risky.
Police say Pretlow drove the vehicle from the scene, crashed a short distance away and fled along with other occupants. Pretlow, who was not injured, is facing an aggravated assault charge stemming from that encounter. There were as many as four people inside the vehicle, Smith said.
"Please keep the family of Gwinnett County Police Officer A. Toney in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn his loss", the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook.
Authorities say, two suspects, including one still being sought by police, have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Georgia police officer. "There are no other descriptions available at this time", the news release said, adding that anyone with tips could call the police at (770) 513-5100.
A police officer has died in a shooting in unincorporated Snellville, Gwinnett County Police said.

"Chief Ayers said Toney was considered ".a very jovial person, very dedicated to his job, dedicated to his serving his community".
It is the agency's fifth death in the line of duty. There are no suspects in custody.
