Aric Almirola earned his first victory of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season on Sunday, winning at Talladega Superspeedway and guaranteeing himself a spot in the next round of NASCAR's playoffs.

Teammate Clint Bowyer finished second, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. of Roush Fenway Racing was third. Almirola came close time and again this year but fell short. "Why did we have an extra yellow flag lap is beyond me - the track was ready to go". "And we won. What a cool time to do it, too". What a team effort.

The only breaks he got came late - a caution that gave him a chance to come to pit road for new tires for a two-lap overtime and his deft avoidance of serious damage in a Turn 1 wreck on the final lap.

However, Busch's No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford ran out of gas in Turn 4 on the final lap of the 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

"He had that race won last week, and it was me that brought out the caution, so I feel like he got a little redemption there", Bowyer said.

Harvick led 46 laps in the stage. "We just need a partner, and we have great partners right now with World Wide Technology for a brand-new sponsor to come on-board and to take a big leap with us is big".

"He just keeps telling me, 'Calm down, take deep breaths, '" Almirola said. We have a new vehicle coming here in a couple of weeks, so we have some good things coming it's just a matter for having a little bit of luck on our side.

"We just had a awful race vehicle and were really slow all weekend", Larson said after the race. They were able to collect a handful of stage points to pad the 23-point cushion they had on the cutoff line entering the race and then avoid incidents in the middle of the race to put themselves in a position to win the race in the closing stages.

All four SHR drivers are still part of the 12-driver championship field, which will be trimmed by four following next weekend's race at Kansas. Ron Capps won in the Funny Car. "I don't think you can write enough about the job that everybody at Stewart-Haas did". As a result, eighth-place Truex heads for next Sunday's Round of 12 elimination race at Kansas Speedway 18 points ahead of ninth-place Keselowski and 22 ahead of 10th-place Blaney.

Busch started from the pole and led all but one of the 55 laps in the first stage. Chavous thought he won until he learned all the statistics were incorrect, and NASCAR simply moved on to the next race as if nothing freakish had happened.

Stewart-Haas Racing once again had no problems getting out in front and getting organized, and with just three laps left once the green flag waved, that appeared to be an insurmountable advantage. "I'm guessing we have to win so that's what we have to go do". The track is scheduled to host the third race in round one of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the Fr8Auctions 205.

"There was two missed calls by NASCAR at the end", Busch said. "At the end, once we crossed the white flag and there is a wreck and an ambulance needs to be dispatched, I've been on the other side of that where I was racing coming back to win the race and they said, 'Well we had to dispatch an ambulance'". This is the case as a result of the fact that none of the other 10 round of 12 drivers, including the six who now sit above the round of 8 cut line, have point totals that can not be passed by at least six of the other round of 12 drivers who are not named Almirola or Elliott. Kyle Busch did his best to assure that it did, leading the outside line strongly enough to catch Harvick, who played Pied Piper again with his SHR teammates on the inside.
