Canada becomes second country in the world to legalise cannabis

Every order from B.C. Cannabis Stores' online store will come with a $10 shipping fee.

The global financial community is eagerly watching.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau campaigned on a promise to legalize marijuana, and his Liberal government delivered in the form of Bill C-45, otherwise known as the Cannabis Act. "I'm a little disappointed that they chose not to do that, but this is pretty much unknown territory for them right now, (as) we're only the second country in the world to legalize marijuana". Like marijuana businesses in Colorado, California, and Washington state, the Uruguayan sellers have had to resort to cash, with all its attendant risks.

Sales in Ontario will only be through the Ontario Cannabis Store's website until April 2019 at the earliest.

Some provinces may opt to set the age limit at 19.

"It's a historic day, a real first", said Alain Brunet, project manager for the Quebec's government corporation overseeing the stores. And, all provinces will only have marijuana flower available.

Authorities will soon announce plans to pardon Canadians who have been convicted with possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana, CNN partner CTV reported. But, he says, it's time for both countries to have an "adult conversation" about how they are going to handle the issue.

While some on Vancouver Island are selling through their current product and closing until they receive a provincial license, others are risking it and remaining open until they become licensed. It's the largest corporate investment in a marijuana cultivator to date.

Shawna Cormier said she couldn't wait to check out the new Cannabis NB store in Saint John.

Other big retail companies, like Walmart, have signaled they are exploring the market for CBD (cannabidiol) products.

Talks over legalising marijuana in Canada have been going on for a while now with the Senate voting 52-29 in favour of legalisation.

Canada legalized the sale of marijuana for recreational use starting last night.

He made the first in-store cannabis purchase in the country.
