Mega Millions jackpot grows to $970 million ahead of Friday’s drawing

Florida ticket wins $2 million as Powerball jackpot swells to $430 million

Mega Millions, Powerball jackpots total $1.3 billion

The Florida Lottery is issuing a warning about an email scam claiming to be from Mega Millions. But raising the number of Mega Balls makes it harder to win the jackpot.

The last winners: Powerball on August 11 and Mega Millions on July 24.

Winners are offered two options: Take the US$970m in payments spread over 30 years, or they can have a lump-sum of US$548m. Almost all winners opt for cash, but the annuity has advantages, as it reduces the tax bill a little and offers a stable flow of income that climbs by 5 percent annually. Now, the Mega Millions jackpots grow and grow, creating huge prizes with infrequent payouts. A group of employees at a Wells Fargo & Co. branch in California won a $543 million Mega Millions jackpot in July.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Tuesday at 11 p.m. ET, and tickets must be purchased by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to be eligible.

Tickets that won $50,000 were sold at Bob's Beer & Wine in Bellingham; Convenience Plus in Lee; and Market Basket in Tewksbury.

You would have to be the only one to hand select just over 302 million tickets.

However, its second-biggest one of all time for $656 million happened in 2012 before the tweak. The next drawing will be Fri., Oct.19, 2018.

Saturday's jackpot will be $430 million.

Mega Millions announced a $900 million jackpot Thursday, the largest in the history of the game.

The average American spends about $223 per year on lottery tickets, according to a survey from LENDedu.

Prizes this big do get more people to take a chance on the lottery.
