October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and each year health professionals in the United States rally to bring awareness to an worldwide health issue that affects both women and men. Certain oral contraceptives (birth control pills) also have been found to increase breast cancer risks.
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control wants to remind women of the importance of identifying breast cancer as early as possible. Diagnostic tests (such as biopsy) are given to people who are suspected of having breast cancer, either because of symptoms they may be experiencing or a screening test result. All funds raised will be donated to the charity METAvivor, which uses 100 percent of donations towards research to battle metastatic breast cancer.
