Amazon Reportedly Considering NYC For Half Of Second Headquarters

Dallas and New York also still in Amazon HQ2 finalist pool report says

Amazon in 'advanced talks' to build new HQ near DC

Although talks are still advancing with representatives in NY and Dallas, this could be to prime a backup location in case Crystal City falls through. The WSJ says Amazon will do a split of its second headquarters across two cities.

Inc. will choose two locations for its new headquarters, according the Wall Street Journal, which cited an unidentified person familiar with the matter. The company reportedly is in advanced discussions with Crystal City in Northern Virginia, Dallas and New York City, the Journal reports.

The New York Times started talking up Crystal City last month.

The business publication says Amazon may make the announcement this week. Cuomo offered to travel to Amazon's Seattle hometown to continue talks, the source said. The company said it would invest more than $5 billion over nearly two decades in a second headquarters, hiring as many as 50,000 full-time employees that would earn more than $100,000 a year on average.

The Seattle-based company has been looking for a second location, dubbed HQ2, since September 2017.

"From our management visits we've had in D.C., everyone has said it's Crystal City", said Alexander Goldfarb, an analyst at Sandler O'Neill & Partners who covers Vornado but not JBG Smith.

For a 20-year-old company with more than 50,000 employees and one of the biggest market capitalizations of any company in history, Amazon sure is full of surprises. They also met with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, it said.

There won't be one victor, the Journal says, citing "a person familiar with the matter".

A decision could come as early as this week. "We have a great incentive package", he said.

"I'll change my name to Amazon Cuomo if that's what it takes", Cuomo told reporters on Monday. Bezos owns the Washington Post and a home in the prominent Kalorama neighborhood. The Journal reported the finalists are New York, Dallas and Crystal City, Va.
