Apple announces next generation Mac Mini with latest Intel processors and up to 64GB of RAM

Introduced as a smaller and more affordable desktop computer by Apple in 2005, Mac mini's power and versatility have made it a favorite of developers around the world for every stage of the app creation process, from tinkering to testing and simulating at scale. Consumers and analysts began to speculate that the product line's days were numbered, but Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to an email from a customer to say, "We do plan for Mac mini to be an important part of our product line going forward" about a year ago.

In contrast to the company's other computers, the new Mac Mini features a plethora of ports, including a 10Gb Ethernet connection and four Thunderbolt 3 ports. Lastly Apple wanted to highlight that this laptop is made from "a custom, Apple-designed aluminium alloy that enables the use of 100 percent recycled aluminium for the first time".

Considering how much Apple loves to eliminate any sort of port that might be called "legacy", it's a bit of a surprise to look behind the new Mac Mini and find four Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.0 output, and an Ethernet port with an option for 10-Gb connectivity.

The new Apple Pencil is available to order now from Apple's online store with a dispatch date of November 6, and is priced at $129 (£119 / AU$199). So it's only natural to make the new one considerably faster and more refined.

You get 8th Gen Intel Core i processors with 6-core and quad-core options.

To keep the mini cool, Apple has redesigned the power supply, added a bigger fan, and expanded vents increasing airflow twofold.

While this isn't the 2018 Mac Mini Pro, it has more in common with the Pro lineup than it has before.

The new Mac mini comes with Intel UHD Graphics 630.

The new models also include Apple's custom T2 chip.

The Mac Mini was an entry-level Mac, and now the 2018 Mac Mini is an entry-level powerful Mac.

Its accompanying stylus, the Apple Pencil, was also given significant upgrades: aside from new gestures and controls, it can now magnetically latch onto the side of the iPad Pro and charge wirelessly. T2 also features HEVC video transcoding that's up to an incredible 30 times faster, enabling pro users to work more quickly with higher resolution video throughout their workflow.

We're still awaiting United Kingdom prices but expect the Mac Mini to be available at the same time as in the US.
