The US Congress is composed of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims that she's unable to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C., until she begins collecting her congressional salary, but records show she has more than enough to plunk down on an apartment in the USA capital. Scarry deleted his tweet, but it was screen grabbed and quoted repeatedly. "I'll tell you something: that jacket and coat don't look like a girl who struggles", Scarry wrote.
"If I walked into Congress wearing a sack, they would laugh and take a picture of my backside" she wrote. "It's time for one of us".
After deleting the tweet, Mr Scarry said it had been misconstrued.
"If I made people mad, they could have put me on the dog-walking committee".
Others highlighted further serious transgressions of which the politician might be accused.
Ocasio-Cortez took a beating for the brain freeze, forcing her to address the slip on Twitter Sunday. The outfit, which Interview borrowed for the shoot, reportedly cost around $3,500.
John Cardillo tweeted: "The ignorance of our political process among Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her supporters is mind-numbing". "If we want a party that reflects our voters and values we need primaries". "All of the rebellion for the speakership are challenges to her right, and so I think it's important to communicate that".
Earlier this month, soon after becoming the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, Ocasio-Cortez complained that she wouldn't have enough money to rent a Washington, D.C., apartment until she begins drawing her congressional salary in January.
She is accusing members of the GOP of "drooling" in anticipation of every mistake she might make in "real time".
"Ah yes, God forbid a diverse, working-class district (that more accurately represents modern America) actually have equal say in our democracy as your weird uncle with questionable racial beliefs who shares fake conspiracy memes on Facebook", Ocasio-Cortez fired back in a retweet. "This is the Yorktown Heights (very nice area) home @Ocasio2018 grew up in before going off to Ivy League Brown University".
The pledge from Tlaib and Ocasio-Cortez to continue to primary incumbents injects a new element of politics into intra-caucus maneuvering. Chakrabarti was also on the call and was more blunt in his remarks. It doesn't matter where the clothing was purchased or how much the house cost; what matters is whether someone looks "poor". That's what Ocasio-Cortez is doing on the Left. The underlying message here is that if working people own anything beyond the bare minimum, then they're not really struggling.
