Heisman Trophy history: three quarterbacks of color

Murray Wins Davey O'Brien Award

The Latest: AP top player Murray adds O’Brien; Tua wins Camp

Tagovailoa would be Alabama's first quarterback to win the award and third player in history, joining running backs Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry, both of whom also played under head coach Nick Saban. The past four Maxwell winners and past five Walter Camp winners have all gone on to win the Heisman. Oklahoma has produced six Heisman winners, which includes three quarterbacks (Jason White, Sam Bradford and Mayfield) since 2003. And only five Heisman winners have failed to win AP Player of the Year since the award started in 1998. The Oklahoma quarterback topped Tagovailoa for the Davey O'Brien Award given to the nation's top quarterback.

On Saturday night, Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins will be in NY for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.

Murray lost out on the Maxwell award to Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa is Alabama's second Walter Camp Award victor, joining running back Derrick Henry in 2015. Haskins, who led Ohio State to a 12-1 record and Big 10 championship, has a small following of fans who believe that he is deserving of the trophy come Saturday night. No other school has had more than two AP Player of the Year winners.

In a normal year, he'd be a shoo-in for the award.

Murray is a junior, but the Oakland A's picked him in the first round of the MLB Draft this year and he's expected to report for spring training with them.

Murray hasn't even played a top-10 defense all season, and the only top-10 D that Tua played was Georgia. He's also rushed for 892 yards and 11 scores.

As for raw numbers, Murray has thrown for 4,053 yards, 40 touchdowns and just seven interceptions while completing 71 percent of his passes.

Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is adding to his trophy case.

"I'd like to do both (football and baseball) if possible", Murray told reporters Friday, via Sports Illustrated. "All the hard work with my teammates has really paid off".
