A perusal of the nominee list, announced early Friday morning, reveals encouraging signs.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar has been nominated for more Grammy awards than any other entertainer, with eight nods.

Ella Mai's Boo'd Up and Shawn Mendes' In My Blood earned song of the year nominations, while Post Malone's Rockstar and Cardi B's I Like It, featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin, complete the nominees for record of the year.

Noah Shebib, another one of Drake's collaborators, is recognized with four nominations for songs from the Scorpion album.

For Best R&B Performance, the couple's song Summer will be competing against Long As I Live by Toni Braxton, Y O Y by Lalah Hathaway, Best Part by H.E.R. The Carters earned two nods in the R&B category along with best music video, while Grande picked up two nods in pop.

In the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category, Wayne Shorter received his 21st Grammy nomination, for Emanon.

In addition, Drizzy made it into several rap categories.

Taylor Swift was also snubbed by the Recording Academy over her album "Reputation".

Brandon, Man. -raised violinist James Ehnes is nominated for classical instrumental solo for his concerto Kernis, while Toronto-born conductor Peter Oundjian also received a nod for classical compendium.

The American artiste was announced as the top contender with eight nominations, including seven for his musical composition for the Marvel Studio's Black Panther. It was a moment to be surrounded by my band and the people I love.

Some acts scored their first nominations ever, including Florida Georgia Line, whose megahit "Meant to Be" with Rexha is up best country duo/group performance.
